Salem’s New Interim

Salem has welcomed Pastor Galen Hora as our new Interim pastor. Here is a little about him.

 

Pastor Galen Hora comes to Salem Lutheran following a long ministry career as a campus pastor.  He served on a variety of campuses, including Ames, Miami, Pittsburgh, Brookings, Ann Arbor, and the Twin Cities.  For many years he held a position relating to national campus ministries of the ELCA and the National Council of Churches.  He has served as pastor of congregations in Greensboro, NC, Miami Springs, FL, and Mercy Seat, St. Luke's First-Columbia Heights, Edina Community Lutheran Church, and Calvary in the Minneapolis Area Synod.  He is an active member of Faith Lutheran in Coon Rapids.

 

            Galen's early life was spent on farms and in small towns in eastern Iowa.  He graduated from Wartburg College, where he majored in Greek and psychology.   He holds degrees from  Wartburg Seminary, Luther Seminary, and Union Seminary in Virginia.  His wife, Kris, is a retired elementary  school social worker with the Anoka-Hennepin District.  They have three grown children and 6 grandchildren in the area.  In his spare time he enjoys traveling, woodworking, reading, photography, sports, and tinkering with his 1946 Ford pickup.
