Taking God’s Call Personally & Growing in Grace
As a congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, we take God’s call personally. When we say we are “living a hospitality of heart, hands, and hope,” we mean that we will use our voices in public witness and our hands to feed, care, and advocate for our neighbors-locally or globally. We are a place of welcome diversity. We see God reflected in the faces around us and we are an RIC congregation (Reconciling in Christ).
Everything about Salem centers around the same hospitality that Jesus practiced—one of radical inclusion and extravagantly expressed love. It’s who and whose we are and we don’t know any other way to be. For many of us, our core beliefs are also expressed via the eight points of progressive Christianity. By calling ourselves progressive Christians, we mean we are Christians who take the bible seriously but not literally. As sacred text it guides and informs our lives as we grow within God’s grace.
Founded in 1895, Salem is also an inter-generational church. We believe strongly that regardless of age, we enjoy learning from each other.
We invite you to come and check out Salem, either online or in person when you can. We look forward to meeting you soon!
